An animal welfare activist and a citizen took these pictures of human brutality. Shows how primitive this part of India is.

BEWARE – Here is an eye-opener from a friend who had a terrible experience with Circle of Animal Lovers in New Delhi. We had been hearing a number of morbid stories about this place in the past, and a friend actually put it together in email to warn everyone.

“I just wanted to share this experience with you all. A few of my colleagues and I are crazy about animals and we take care of the dogs outside our office. We’d been thinking of getting them spayed and neutered for months and we finally called Circle of Animal lovers and sent four dogs to begin with, 3 males and 1 female, paying 300/- per dog.
We went to see them after 10 days since they hadn’t yet sent them back (they’d told us they’d be back in 7-10 days). It broke my heart to see them when we saw them. They’d lost weight, their stomachs had gone in completely, and they looked miserable. One’s stitches were open! We were told about that in the morning. By afternoon, when we went there, something should have been done about it. The place itself was disgusting, a drain ran through the place, it was just covered with an iron sheet.

They sent one back two weeks ago and another last week who is looking terribly weak. According to their website, they feed the dogs three times a day…
I doubt they are even fed once properly. They also took 200/- when we signed the release form. We certainly do not mind paying the money but give us our dogs back in a good condition. One more is coming back today, the one whose stitches opened. I only hope, they overcome this traumatic experience. We feel responsible and blame ourselves for not checking the place out properly but I hope this post will cause other animal lovers to think twice before sending either house pets or ’stray’ pets there. I apologize if this post seems all over the place, I’ve just been very upset by this episode.”

Smita’s comments – We have henceforth contacted Mrs. Irani Mukherjee, who is the person behind Circle of Animal Lovers, and haven’t received any serious explanations. A number of animal lovers in Delhi region are getting together to discuss on this and think of possible solutions. Any helpful suggestions you might have are welcome.

My name is Smita Joshi and I am a working professional based in New Delhi. Through this post I represent countless of Delhi citizens like myself.

I am an animal sympathiser and a follower of non-violence. I want Mr. Gupta to know that his thoughts seem very violent! I understand his concern for human life but as I see it, dogs have been popular companions of human beings for all times. Mr. Gupta and his team should let the animal activists and NGOs, working to solve this problem in a humane way, handle this and give their support. If he is so concerned about human life, Mr. Gupta should concentrate the MCD effort towards rehabilitating and protecting street children and old people on the streets in different parts of Delhi.

Mr. Gupta, what about the stray cow population? Why don’t you destroy them? Maybe because you are scared of hurting Hindu sentiments! Why be so hypocritical about life?

Hindu religion, like any other religion on this planet, teaches its followers to be non-violent and appreciative of all life. This planet belongs to the animals as well, you know. And if you must remove them, then lets do it in a humane manner. It has been proved worldwide that sterilization and vaccination are the only scientific ways to lessen stray animal population. ‘Destroying dogs’ and ‘Shipping dogs to Korea’ as the MCD puts it, sound so monsterous.

Mr. Gupta and the rest of the MCD should know that for every one violent and animal hater in this city, there are TWO animal sympathisers who will speak for the defenseless animals of the city.

We, the people of Delhi, want the MCD to actively support the animal welfare organizations working towards curbing stray population and providing medical aid to street animals. We want MCD and other decision makers to realize that we are a non-violent race and we will NOT accept MCD destorying life in any form. Will the MCD take note and realise that the people of this city are not mute spectators to cruelty. There are people of all professions supporting the cause of protecting life in all its form. Animals have been our companions for years and we are not going to let MCD or any other body be violent and cruel. We only understand and recognize one form of stray animal population control and that is sterilization and vaccination.
